PBTF Research Sponsorships and Awards
The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation supports research through sponsorship of professional research organizations, symposiums and research awards.
A young researcher works diligently in his/her research career to present and publish research findings through peer-reviewed research meetings and journals. The opportunities for peer review take place through submissions of research abstracts and articles to scientific research meetings and scientific journals. To qualify for presentation and publication the researcher's work must be rated by the scientific review committees to be of high scientific merit.
Research meetings offer the opportunity for researchers to present their peer-reviewed research abstracts through oral presentations or posters presentations at gatherings where fellow researchers will do the same. It is through these opportunities that research ideas are generated and collaborative research efforts between researchers are developed.
The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation has a long history of supporting research meetings, organizations and awards that provide researchers with the opportunities to present their research findings and to receive recognition.

PBTF Supports Research Awards

- Peter Steck Memorial Young Investigator research Award and Lecture at MD Anderson Cancer Center
- AANS/CNS Best Resident Paper Award at the annual meeting of the AANS/CNS

PBTF Funds Research Founding Grants
The PBTF provided an 8-year founding grant to establish the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States, the only population-based database registry for malignant and benign brain tumors in the United States.
The PBTF provided a founding grant to the Society of Neuro-Oncology to establish the medical journal Neuro-Oncology, which is now rated as one of the top medical journals of its kind.
Recognitions and Awards Presented to the PBTF
The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation was presented with the Society of Neuro-Oncology Distinguished Benefactors Award on two occasions, 1999 and 2001, in recognition of contributions made by the PBTF to the field of neuro-oncology research.
The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation has also received an AANS/CNS Tumor Section Appreciation Award and the Midwest Children's Brain Tumor Center's Angels Award for the contributions of the PBTF to neuro-Oncology and pediatric brain tumor patients.
The founders of the PBTF have been presented with the Duke Pinnacle Society Award and the Shingleton Award from the Duke Medical Center in recognition of the foundations support of brain tumor research.
The founders of the PBTF have received the Hazel Kolb Brighter Image Award from the American Motorcyclist Association for their work in bringing motorcyclists into the support of children with brain tumors through the motorcyclist's fund raising efforts to support pediatric brain tumor research.
The Culberson Memorial Award for the Betterment of Motorcycling from Motorcycle Consumer News
Mike Traynor received the Best of Motorcycling 2000 Award from Motorcyclist Magazine for being recognized as the "Motorcyclist of the Year"
