Cure the Kids Radiothon raises $75,000 in Phoenix

February 27, 2008

The first annual Cure the Kids Radiothon in Phoenix, Ariz., raised $75,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation on Feb. 22-23. Broadcast live from the Chandler Fashion Center on 100.7 KSLX, the 30-hour event brought hope and much-needed research funds to the pediatric brain tumor community.

"The response from the Phoenix community was incredible," said Jim Owen, KLSX program director. "Hearing those phones ring and watching the tote-board numbers grow to $75,000 made last weekend one of the most rewarding 30 hours of my radio career."

"This event clearly shows the compassion of the people of Phoenix as well as of the hundreds of volunteers who worked the 30 hours of this radiothon," said Aggie Alexander, PBTF director of development. "Because of their efforts, children suffering from brain tumors have a much better chance at living a healthy life. Our gratitude to everyone involved is immeasurable."

The Phoenix event met its goal through telephone, Internet and cash donations, an online auction on KSLX, and drawings for gift baskets. A phenomenal group of sponsors, local businesses and volunteers turned the event into a whopping success. In addition to KSLX and the Chandler Fashion Center, special thanks go to premier sponsor Native New Yorker Restaurants.

Heartfelt thanks to the KSLX on-air personalities, Mark Mayfield, Susan Stone, Pete Cummings and Steve Trella for their outstanding support and compassion during the broadcast.

The radiothon was dedicated to the memory of Nikki White, a local child who lost her battle with a pediatric brain tumor in 1998.
