The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s second annual radiothon with Bob and the Showgram raised $134,805 on Nov. 25.

The 12-hour “Bob’s Buddies” event was broadcast live in North Carolina on G105 in Raleigh/Durham and on 105.7 Hit Music Now in Greensboro.

Bob Dumas, himself a brain tumor survivor, hosted the event with his Showgram team. During the day they interviewed several local children with brain tumors, their parents, and doctors to give listeners insight into the desperate need for research funding.

“I am so proud of Triangle and Triad Showgram listeners. Even in this down economy, they opened their hearts to help children,” Dumas said. “What a wonderful organization. I can’t wait until next year!”

PBTF President Dianne Traynor praised Bob and the Showgram, radio station staff, volunteers, and listeners. “The $134,000 raised will give children with brain tumors a second chance at life, one that they would not have without the discoveries made through the research that these funds will support,” she said.

Some listeners even raised money before the radiothon. Two local third-graders asked for donations to the PBTF in lieu of birthday gifts. Together they contributed $1,200 in honor of their classmate Nicholas, a brain tumor survivor.

An online auction of autographed items, including a University of North Carolina basketball and memorabilia from Beyonce, Coldplay, and the Jonas Brothers, added $8,418 to the total.

Many thanks to the event’s sponsors, Chick-Fil-A, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Coldstone Creamery, Papa John’s Pizza, Highwoods Properties, and Aéropostale of Triangle Town Center.
