Country music star Kellie Pickler’s private concert made the day of hundreds of students, including brain tumor survivor Nicholas (right).

Some very lucky—and excited—elementary school students were treated to a private concert by former "American Idol" finalist and BNA recording artist Kellie Pickler last week.

Pickler's June 12 show at Oak Ridge Elementary School near Greensboro, N.C., was the students' prize for winning the second annual "Wake up with the Wolf School Spirit Contest," sponsored by 93.1 The Wolf (WPAW-FM). "Wake Up With the Wolf Morning Show" hosts Chuck Marsh and Leanne Petty organized the competition to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Oak Ridge students won by raising $15,000 through their "Coins from Colts" program, mostly in change and dollar bills. The nine schools that participated in this year's contest raised a total of $40,000.

"This was my favorite show ever," Pickler said. "This is just a super-wonderful cause, and it's great for the kids to get involved and be a part of it."

Listen to Kellie Pickler talk about the concert on 93.1 The Wolf!

Organizer Chuck Marsh agreed. "I'm really proud of all the schools and the students that came together for one common goal," he said. "Kids helping kids...it doesn't get much better than that!"
