Mike and Erica of Bob &The Showgram take a break with brain tumor survivor Shango, mom Cina, sister Cairo, and host Bob Dumas.

Bob’s Buddies raised a record amount for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF) last week. The fourth annual radiothon on Raleigh, N.C., station G105 brought in $180,864 in donations, pledges and proceeds from an online auction, bringing the lifetime event total to $550,000.

Brain tumor survivor Bob Dumas and his Bob and The gram crew hosted the 12-hour event. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all the friends and our Showgram family who donated, making this year the best year ever for Bob's Buddies and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation!” Dumas said. “I know that 2012 will be the year of miracles with pediatric brain tumor research and amazing things will happen.”

In addition to appealing for funds, Dumas and his colleagues interviewed children and families who’ve been affected by the deadliest form of pediatric cancer.

One of those young people is Shoshanna, who attends Wake Forest University with the help of a PBTF scholarship. “The research that you’re helping to fund … is paving the way forward for so many other kids of tomorrow,” she told listeners.

That research is being performed at PBTF Institutes such as the one at Duke University in Durham. Doctors there are searching for a cure, but also looking for ways to extend and improve the quality of lives of children like Cameron, who passed away earlier this month. “I think they (the donors) can rest assured that their money is going to be used to really better the lives of children with brain tumors,” said his mother, LeAnn.

“We are grateful to Bob, Erica, Mike, the entire G105 staff, and all the listeners for their support of children with brain tumors and their families,” said PBTF President Dianne Traynor. “The funds raised will support valuable, lifesaving research, and Bob’s Buddies provided a wonderful day of support and advocacy for families dealing with this disease.”

Bob’s Buddies also received support from local sponsors Biscuitville, Jersey Mike’s Subs, the Dancing Chocolatier, Ruckus Pizza, Aéropostale of Triangle Town Center, Red Phish Records, and Windstream Communications.

Stay tuned for details about our next radio fundraising event in February 2012 in Phoenix.
