PBTF Radiothons
ra-di-o-thon [rey-dee-oh-thon] an on-the-air radio campaign, often lasting 24 hours or more, designed to raise money for a radio station, charity, the arts, etc., as from listeners phoning in and pledging specific donations, sometimes in exchange for gifts or premiums.
In January 2007, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation held its first radiothon in our home city of Asheville, N.C. We raised over $100,000 and exposed the impact that children's brain tumors have on patients and their families to a whole new audience. Now, the PBTF is holding radiothons in other cities around the U.S. to raise funds and awareness for our battle against this terrible disease.
To date, we have hosted six radiothons and have generated more $370,000 at events in Asheville and Raleigh, N.C., and Phoenix, Ariz. The PBTF is excited about the funds that radiothons generate, and the long-term benefits that the added exposure brings the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and the kids we help.
We are searching for more radiothon partner stations. Our organization prides itself on producing a turn-key event. Our radiothon coordinator, Michael Beaver, worked in marketing and promotions with Clear Channel Radio for over 10 years, organizing everything from radiothons to major music festivals. He takes care of all the advance and on-site planning so that stations can focus on their on-air presentation.
