San Diego Ride for KidsĀ®

October 19, 2008

  • SoCal riders raise more than $56,000

It was a perfect day for riding as over 180 motorcyclists and supporters gathered at Mira Costa College in Cardiff for the fourth annual San Diego Ride for Kids®, which raised $56,390 for the PBTF.

Clear skies and a light breeze accompanied the riders and their police escort as they enjoyed sweeping views of the Pacific coastline and mountains.

When the riders returned to the college, the Celebration of Life program got underway. It honored four local brain tumor survivors, including Steven, 14, and Michelle, a former PBTF scholarship recipient who is now in graduate school.

The crowd also heard from Dr. Eduardo Serna, an emergency room physician who is often the first to diagnose brain tumors in the children he treats. "You have made a difference in someone's life today," he told them. "I applaud you."

The top individual fundraiser was Kailin Terrill, representing BikeBandit.com. She and the company raised $11,040 with an online promotion benefiting the PBTF.

Gold Angels Motorcycle Drill Team of Temecula, Calif., was the top club/chapter with $7,376 in member contributions, while Escondido Cycle Center customers turned in $14,681 to make it the top motorcycle business. Cliff Phillip of Temecula won the grand prize, a new Honda motorcycle.

Special thanks went to San Diego's dedicated task force and event volunteers, led this year by Gary Magee.
