Albuquerque Ride for Kids®

  • Albuquerque Ride for Kids® raises $89,000

Motorcyclists at the fourth annual Albuquerque Ride for Kids brought more than $89,000 in donations to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation event.

Albuquerque's Journal Pavilion was the start and end point for the sunny ride, which had a police escort through the Land of Enchantment. The 12 local brain tumor survivors who accompanied the riders were honored later during a Celebration of Life program.

These Ride for Kids® "stars" included Merckx, 10, who has made a remarkable recovery since last year’s event, when he was unable to walk or talk.

Richard, 15, spoke for many when he expressed his gratitude. "Thank you for supporting me and my family," he said. "Thank you bikers, for letting us ride today and for the support during my trials."

The event's announced total was $89,146. The first-place fundraisers were:

    • Top Individuals: Rick and Lynda Howell, $10,595
    • Top Club/Chapter: GWRRA NM-F, $27,378
    • Top Motorcycle Business: Accessory Pit, $56,187

The winner of the Honda motorcycle drawing was Richard Mummey of Albuquerque.

Volunteers deserve the credit for the event's success. The local task force is led by Rick and Lynda Howell, Ted and Kathy Bates, and Jackie Cooke.
