Utica Ride for Kids®

July 19, 2009

Brain tumor survivor Savannah suits up in Utica.

Utica tops $100,000 in donations

The 12th Utica Ride for Kids® was another winner, with 550 fundraisers and motorcyclists bringing in $101,468 for childhood brain tumor research and family support.

The riders left from Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department on a cloudy morning, winding through the gorgeous Adirondack foothills with a police escort. When they reached the Old Forge Pavilion in the Town of Webb, a special program celebrated the lives of eight local brain tumor survivors.

These heroes included Savannah, 7, and Hunter, 11, who raised over $2,000 for the cause. “I’ll be back with much more next year,” he pledged.

The top fundraisers were:

  • Individuals: Peter Weidman and Jacqueline Devlin, $11,321
  • Club/Chapter: GWRRA NY, $43,748
  • Motorcycle Business: Sportline Power Products, $20,501

The drawing for the new Honda motorcycle was won by Harold Beaumont of Earlton, N.Y.

A huge thank-you went to the local task force and event volunteers, led by Ken and Kathy Sweatman, Mike and Lesley Grogan, and Cindy Wilcox.
