Houston motorcyclists raise $290,000 at 18th Ride for Kids®

Motorcyclists at the 18th annual Houston Ride for Kids® raised $290,418 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® on April 25.

Heading east from the Humble Civic Center, the riders and their police escorts were treated to a great view of Lake Houston as they crossed the water twice. They were accompanied by 18 children and young adults who have battled brain tumors.

These Ride for Kids® “stars” ranged in age from 6-year-old Javier to Amy, 33. During the Celebration of Life program, they told the crowd of 885 about their lives. The riders also heard from parents of survivors, leading fundraisers and a local pediatric neuro-oncologist.

“Research is finding new ways to treat cancer cells with targeted therapy, but without the funding to pay for the research we wouldn’t be able to learn anything,” said Dr. Johannes Wolff of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

The top fundraisers were:

  • Individual: Lynn & Ann Perrin, $23,110
  • Club/chapter: GWRRA TX-C, $57,211
  • Motorcycle business: Northwest Honda, $145,314

Special thanks to the entire Houston Ride for Kids® task force members, who worked tirelessly all year to organize this successful event.
