Oklahoma hosted its inaugural Ride for Kids® in sunny, windy weather. Over 150 people came to the Tulsa Health Department to show their support for two local brain tumor survivors, Sadie and Katie.
The motorcyclists traveled over scenic back roads along the Arkansas River before returning for a program honoring the youngsters. Katie got a special treat when the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to her.
"Thank you for coming out and helping my child through this difficult time," said Sadie's mother, Ashley. "You have made her life better."
Dr. Scott Cyrus, a pediatrician with South Crest Hospital, helped the riders make the connection between raising funds and fighting brain tumors. "Early diagnosis gives life to these children," he said. "Your dollars give life to the research."
The event raised a total of $10,486. The top fundraisers were:
- Individuals: Sam Caine & Cathy Bracken, $1,200 ï
- Club/Chapter: GWRRA OK-E, $800
- Motorcycle Business: Honda of Tulsa, $2,115
Many thanks went to the local volunteers who planned the Tulsa event. They were joined yesterday by task force leaders from Ride for Kids® events around the country.
