April 18, 2010

Smokey Bear joins brain tumor survivor Caitlyn in San Bernardino.

SoCal dualies crank it up for kids

Dual sport riders at the 18th annual Southern California Ride for Kids® contributed $37,943 to the PBTF on a sunny morning in San Bernardino.

The 265 participants started the day with pancakes at Glen Helen Raceway. Before the riders took off for a day of trail riding in the San Bernardino National Forest, they honored local brain tumor survivors Caitlyn, Bryan, Trent and Brandon during the Celebration of Life program.

“Keep on doing what you are doing,” 16-year-old Brandon said. “The money you guys raise helps to make sure that we are all back again next year.”

Dr. Albert Kherdapour of Loma Linda University Medical Center agreed. “In the six years I have been working with this, we have come a long way and you guys are the reason that these kids keep fighting,” the pediatric oncologist said.

The first-place fundraisers were:

  • Individual: Loyd Waters, $5,000
  • Club/chapter: Orange County Dualies, $9,721
  • Motorcycle business: Simi Valley Honda, $10,554

Winners of the drawing prizes from Ride for Kids® premium sponsors were: Loyd Waters (Honda motorcycle), Frank Trujillo (AGV helmet), Ron Clough (Dunlop tire), Jim Nicholson (Cardo Systems headset) and Loretta Casteel (Tourmaster luggage).

Chris and Loretta Casteel, Jim and Roberta Woods, Paul Flanders and Buddy Percin organized this year’s ride, with assistance from many great volunteers.
