Riders in Knoxville, Tenn., gave generously to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF) yesterday, contributing $56,442 at the area’s 11th Ride for Kids®.
The day was hot and humid, but the crowd of 200 at Pellissippi State Community College enthusiastically cheered Ride for Kids® stars Jimmy, Jessica M., Jessica S., Haley, Stanton, Dawn, and Hannah. Many of these brain tumor survivors joined the ride through the countryside, then told the fundraisers about themselves.
“I’m in my second year of pre-med and am looking forward to giving back,” said Stanton, 19.
The riders also heard from Dr. Ray Pais and Dr. Susan Spiller, pediatric oncologists from East Tennessee Childrens Hospital. “The children benefit so much from the research that is funded by the money you all raise,” said Pais.
Knoxville’s fundraising efforts were led by:
- Individuals: Tom and Kathy Peck $5,528
- Club/Chapter: GWRRA TN-B, $8,242
- Motorcycle Business: Customers of Honda of Knoxville, $8,617
Managers and employees of Hardee’s Restaurants in the area raised over
$27,000 for the event. Hardee’s regional marketing manager Pate Fee said
his company was proud to support such a worthwhile cause.
Drawing prizes went to Mike Bridges (Honda motorcycle); Virgil Williams (AGV helmet); George Brown (Dunlop tire); Steve Green (Tourmaster luggage); and Jennifer Williams (Cardo Systems headset).
The Knoxville Ride for Kids® was organized by a great team of volunteers, led this year by Tom and Kathy Peck, Rick and Cindy Valentine, and Sue Dauber. Ride with us next year on Sunday, July 29.
