Louisiana Ride for Kids®

October 23, 2011

Lily, 7, is excited to be a Louisiana Ride for Kids® star.

Louisiana’s annual Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF) Ride for Kids® raised $30,233 on Oct. 23.

Over 100 participants met at SLEMCO headquarters in Lafayette to show their support for brain tumor survivors like Paige, Lily, Brooke and Audrey. Several of these “stars” led the ride past cattle ranches and pecan orchards before returning for a celebratory program.

“Thanks for all of the support that you and the foundation have given me to continue with school,” said PBTF scholarship recipient Audrey. Two-year-old Paige’s mother, Megan, who had learned of the ride just days before from their oncologist, said the support from the motorcycling community was “overwhelming.”

The event’s top fundraisers were:

  • Individuals: Anita and Baileigh Porche, $5,600
  • Motorcycle club/chapter: GWRRA LA-F, $7,120
  • Motorcycle business: Northwest Honda of Houston, $9,800

Donated Ride for Kids® drawing prizes went to Anthony Leger (Honda motorcycle); Tammy Credeur (AGV helmet); Gordon Salisbury (Dunlop tire); Jennifer Porche (Tourmaster luggage); and Carolyn Comeaux (Cardo Systems headset).

Local task force leaders Bullet and Nancy McGee and Charles and Anita Porche and their dedicated volunteers worked all year to make the Louisiana Ride for Kids® a success. They were joined at the ride by task force members from Ride for Kids® events in Albuquerque, Baltimore, Dallas and Houston.

Next year the Louisiana Ride for Kids® is moving to Alexandria. It will also take place on a new weekend—mark your calendar now for May 20, 2012.
