Utah's young brain tumor survivors had some powerful allies on their
side on Saturday, Aug. 13. Motorcyclists brought $35,247 in donations to
the area's seventh Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® Ride for Kids®.
This Is the Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City was the start point for
the ride, which was led by eight local brain tumor survivors — Sada,
Jimmy, Lynzi, Brayden, Brian, Zoe, and PBTF college scholarship
recipients Holli and Kimberly.
The riders climbed to the top of
Emigration Canyon on their way to the Celebration of Life at Riverside
Park in Morgan City. Mayor Jim Egbert and Councilwoman Shelley Betts
welcomed the crowd of 175, and everyone listened intently as the young
people talked about their lives.
“I cannot thank you enough, your volunteering means more than you
will ever know,” said Holli. Added 11-year-old Sada, “Thanks for
bringing the motorcycles, they are really fun. I like the wind in my
face.”
Top fundraisers at the event were:
- Individual: Max Maxedon, $9,059
- Club/Chapter: Members of GWRRA NV-H, $9,103
- Motorcycle Business: Customers of Tri City Performance, $11,064
Donated drawing prizes went to Justin Barnard (Honda motorcycle);
Dennis Price (AGV helmet); Mike Miller (Dunlop tire); Kelly Nelson
(Tourmaster luggage); and Brett Hedges (Cardo Systems headset).
Byron
and Debbie Quick and Carol and Harvey Dean led the volunteer team that
organized this year’s event. Ride with us next year on Saturday, Aug. 12.
Each state requires PBTF to approve your fundraiser, so contact us early in your planning process. The first step is to complete our fundraising application.
