Saturday, July 23, was the 20th anniversary of Ride for Kids® in
Marysville, Ohio. Local motorcyclists showed strong support for the
event benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF), raising
$60,049.
They rode to honor survivors Caitlin, Seth, Naomi, Jared and Brian, as well as Jason, who passed away earlier this year.
Leaving from the headquarters of Scotts Miracle-Gro, the ride
included seven of the area’s historic covered bridges. The 200
participants then settled in to find out who the top fundraisers were,
and to hear more about the kids.
Caitlin, 22, has received three scholarships from the PBTF. “Thanks
to everyone that raises money,” she said. “The PBTF scholarship fund
made it possible for me to get my college degree in psychology.”
Dr. Corey Raffel of the Center for Childhood Cancer and The Research
Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, spoke for many
when he said, “You are not here today because it’s your job, you are
here because you care.”
The leading fundraisers in Marysville were:
- Individuals: Ken & Carol Denman, $10,840
- Club/Chapter: GWRRA OH-D3, $18,278
- Motorcycle Business: Honda Marysville Motorsports, $26,977
Drawing prizes went to Ken Denman (Honda motorcycle); Dennis Summers
(Dunlop tire), Ike Shafer (AGV helmet); Tim Tucker (Tourmaster luggage);
and John Fox (Cardo Systems headset).
Task force leaders Ken and Carol Denman, Bobbie Jo Trittschuh, Cathi
Shafer and Dave Cooper, along with their hardworking volunteers, deserve
the thanks for organizing a terrific event for the kids.
Next year the Marysville Ride for Kids® is moving to a Sunday. Mark your calendar now for July 22, 2012.
