Brain tumor survivor Megan, 4, and her dad enjoy their sidecar ride in Jacksonville. |
The third Northeast Florida Ride for Kids® took place in Jacksonville
over the weekend, raising $16,158 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF).
The north campus of Florida State College hosted the 100 participants,
who came to support local brain tumor survivors Stefan, Hailey, Megan, William
and Brycen. The group rode through the countryside of Duval County before
returning for a Celebration of Life program.
Megan’s mother, Brandi, said she appreciated the motorcyclists’
generosity. “Thank you all for bringing money to this event to fund research
for the treatment of brain tumors. It takes a lot of money to do this. Tumors happen in more kids than you
know. I did not think it would happen in my family.”
Participants also heard from Dr. Eric Sandler, chief of the pediatric
oncology and hematology department at Nemours Children’s Hospital.
The top fundraisers were:
- Individuals:
Charlie & Donna Jackson, $3,162
- Club/chapter:
GWRRA FL-1V, $7,962
- Motorcycle
business: Honda of Jacksonville, $9,255
Congratulations to the winners of the drawing prizes from Ride for Kids®
sponsors: Lacy Hayes (Honda motorcycle); Sharon Wilftang (Dunlop tire); Frederick
Mehl (AGV helmet); Bonnie Jackson (Tourmaster luggage); and David Howell (Cardo
Systems headset).
Many thanks to the hardworking volunteers who made this event possible,
led by Chris Thacker, David and OnaLee Howell, William Darnell, Charlie Jackson,
and Tom and Sharon Wiltfang.
