Quinn

As an active 2-year-old, Quinn seemed an unlikely candidate for a brain tumor. His family took him to the emergency room when symptoms came on suddenly. There they listened in shock to his diagnosis as he played happily in the other room.

The family had to make quick decisions about treatment options. Quinn was immediately transported to a hospital that could treat brain tumors. Two days later he underwent surgery to completely remove an ependymoma tumor.

Now a very inquisitive 5-year-old, Quinn enjoys anything with a motor, including vacuum cleaners, fast cars and motorcycles. He takes apart things to see how they work and then tries to invent something new with the parts.

Quinn’s mother is aware that he must be watched closely by his doctors, because there is a chance the tumor may come back. However, she is reassured to know that advances in technology funded by the PBTF will offer Quinn opportunities for less invasive treatments. For now, she is planning for the end of an active summer and the start of preschool.
